Microsoft confirms that XP contains random number generator bug

Microsoft has acknowledged that Windows XP is plagued by the same encryption 
flaws Israeli researchers recently unveiled in Windows 2000; a fix will be 
included in the XP SP3 due out next year.

'Operational failure' misplaced records for 25 million kids... or was it theft?

Data on 25 million UK children has gone missing, and U.K. banks may be forced 
to take drastic measures to protect the kids in case the information has fallen 
into the hands of some modern-day Fagin... which, says fraud expert Frank 
Abnagale, is a pretty good bet.

A dispute between two firms and representatives of the open-source movement 
appears to be heading to court. The Software Freedom Law Center alleges that 
the two firms are distributing software in violation of the GNU GPL (General 
Public License).

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen's office has filed suit against 
e-voting hardware vendor Election Systems & Software over internal changes made 
to the companies' machines that the state has not approved.

Update: Hackers jack Monster.com, infect job hunters

Monster.com confirmed Tuesday that it took down a portion of its online job 
search service after attackers -- the company suspects the notorious Russian 
Business Network -- hacked the site and used it to feed exploits to visitors.
