I believe both times I requested an ASN last year (my IX and my ISP) they asked
if I wanted a 2 byte or a 4 byte. For the IX, I chose 2 and for my ISP I chose
4.

Would operators take hijacking an ASN issued to someone more seriously than
squatting on an ASN issued to no one?
I'd assume no one cares about the risk to the squatter.

nus" areas
like IPv6 are cast aside. Smaller blocks, smaller fees, I dunno, I'll let
someone else figure out what's best there. Just trying to find ways of getting
the little guys represented and brought into IPv6.

Sub
r own IPv6 allocation.
Seems counter-intuitive in getting everyone on the IPv6 train. It also falls on
a clean boundary, so there shouldn't be any concerns with issued subnets.
If there's no good reason why we're not doing this, how to we start the process
to allow this?
It's a fantasy world where every thought has its own subnet.

Maybe the lesson in all of this is that ARIN needs a calculator on their web
site? ;-)

I had thought that at one point the IPv6 allocation was free for ISPs, but that
deal expired at one point and it was now up to us to pay for both allocations.
I'm not complaining, just seeking clarification since we're talking about
getting IPv6 eligibility, costs, etc.
