Well, there were a number of very popular web-"radio" stations, but the Copyright Office has imposed prohibitively expensive royalty requirements on internet radio, and they've mostly shut down. See, e.g. http://www.saveinternetradio.org/ The politics behind it all is complicated, but the cynic might notice that the oligopolies that control radio and the recording industry have little interest in allowing alternative (i.e. not-controlled-by-them) distribution channels. - Joel
