Sivaji box office collections India, USA, UK, Malaysia, Japan & SA By Behindwoods News Bureau. July 03, 2007 Sivaji has emerged the undisputed king all over. The boss is ruling in each and every theatre it has been released in. According to trade pundits, Sivaji has racked in an unbelievable Rs.95 crores in India alone, by the end of its third weekend. Unbelievable, isn't it? But, it's true, because as opposed to other Tamil films, [Sivaji] Sivaji was not just released in Tamil Nadu but across India with a record of 650-plus screens including 18 theatres in Maharashtra, 4 in Delhi and Kolkata, respectively. The movie is a major hit in all these theatres. And is a record for any regional language movie. In Delhi even the Hindi junta is choosing Sivaji over Jhoom Barabaar Jhoom and other Hindi movies. The overwhelming response to the film in Delhi came as a surprise considering that the film was in Tamil and without subtitles. But people, who are drawn towards the theatres due to the hype, looking for entertainment, are not disappointed. In Andhra Pradesh, both the Telugu and Tamil version were released, with both doing unbelievable business. In close to three weeks, the Telugu version has crossed Rs.18-crore mark. Maharashtra and Kerala have also reported never-heard-before business.
Overseas too, Sivaji is doing mind-boggling business. In Malaysia it has already crossed Rs7.8-crore mark. In its third weekend, the movie was placed in the second spot behind the big budget summer extravaganza - Transformers, but ahead of the other big release Die Hard 4.0 and Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer. The numbers from the US is not available yet, but the movie is said to have broken all the records for a Tamil movie, taking 100% opening across the country in the first week and dropping down to 80% in the third week. The collections are expected to have crossed Rs.4.5 crores. Rajinikanth's popular markets - Japan and South Africa - was to welcome The Boss in the last week of June and sources say that the advance booking for the movie is something that was, till recently, unheard of; close to 90% opening is expected for the first weekend in both the countries. In UK, the movie has collected Rs.2.75 crores so far. Easily one of the biggest Indian movies of the year. No official details have been released from Singapore and Australia. But here again, the movie had taken a grand opening clocking 100% in the first weekend and dropping down to 75% in the third week.
