Belgium: ‘Mozart of Madras’, AR Rahman has added yet another feather on his cap. The composer has won the ‘Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film’ award for the song ‘Jai Ho’, at the prestigious ninth ‘World Soundtrack Awards’ held on Saturday. Oscar winner Rahman bagged the award for his much famous composition, penned by lyricist Gulzar and Tanvi Shah for film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Rahman had created history in early 2009 by becoming the first Indian to win two Oscar Awards in the ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Original Song’ categories for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ at the Academy Awards that were held in February in LA. The film had received 10 Oscar nominations, including 3 for Rahman. Amongst the other winners at the ninth ‘World Soundtrack Awards’, French Golden Globe winner Alexandre Desplat was a double honouree at the award ceremony as he was named ‘Film Composer of the Year’ and also picked up the prize for ‘Score of the Year’ for his much appreciated score ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.’ US composer Nico Muhly was named ‘Discovery of the Year’ for his music for ‘The Reader,’ and composer Christopher Slaski (‘La Verguenza,’ ‘Pulsiones’) won the Sabam Award for ‘Best Young European Composer’. Three-time Oscar-winning composer and songwriter Marvin Hamlisch received the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award.
