I dont understand when people say that IR or ARR popularized Alaipayuthey
Kanna or that song reached more coz of some particular MD. I believe
Alaipayuthey Kanna was already a very popular carnatic song usually sung in
weddings and all carnatic concerts.

I agree with Gomzy... ARR 's version was a class apart... The Fusion which
Ar brings could in no way be compared to any other MD.

It was a unique track and the first carnatic classical piece that could be
pumped up and played with terrific bass. And the singers added soul to it.

I was listening to Raja sir's alaipayudae from the flim Ethanai Konam
Ethanai Paarvai...wow ..brilliant..so much modulations and layers which
is astounding. I am not sure here, coz situations in flims requirement
might be different and music directors have to adhere to that. But arr
