People don't know that you too are part of Jai ho.

[Smiles] Unless you buy the CD - which very few people do. I've sung just two
lines in it but it makes me very happy to be a part of it.

You've had a fine association with Rahman...

Yes working with him is a joy. He looks at our film music differently. To him
it is not about classical music and film music. His passion is evident whatever
he is doing.

What is his contribution according to you?

In form content and style he has revolutionized the film song, broken the
traditional and sometimes limited way of approaching a song. He has allowed
more liberty to lyricists and singers to give of their best.

And his contribution to singers?

Huge. He has added so many new voices to the industry. He gets pleasure in
seeing what a fresh voice can bring to a song so he loves being introduced to
newer talents. This is so different from the earlier trends where only known
voices sold and filmmakers didn't want to even try anyone new.

And what else?

Earlier people criticized him as the keyboard man only but for singers he gave
us superb melodies to sing and the way he records a number even the singer
doesn't know how it will sound in the end and we end up being surprised by his
virtuosity. He completely deserves the recognition he has got and it'll help
all of India.
