compete with popular culture.

receives
much more hype than Western classical. Yehudi Menuhin is such a great
artiste but it’s a completely different story of hype for a Madonna or
a Michael Jackson!” says Pt Shivkumar Sharma, when asked how he felt at
AR Rahman’s global fame.

“But, I believe he (Rahman) is one to have introduced electronic music to 
films. Other composers rely heavily on programmers,” adding,
“Earlier, we used to have arrangers. While the music directors would
also compose the interludes, the arranger would garnish them keeping in
mind the individual styles. That hardly happens now.”
