Rang De Basanti finally tops the charts on AVS rising to No.1 (United States) this week and officially breaks the 5 week top spot run of Bluffmaster. The host had this to say about the development, 'as usual it takes time for Ar Rahman's music to grow on you and thats whats happened here and now that it has grown into peoples heart, it has topped the charts........as only his music can do'.

According to various music sale analysts of IMI,  RDB the soundtrack is selling very well even though there are many other music albums that have been pitted against RDB at one time. RDB is a complete album with many good compositions in it as against the 1 or 2 good compostions in other albums. We also have to keep an eye on the increased trend of ARR compostions being distributed on the net, which is higher in volume from the information I am gathering than any other Indian music director or Indian composer.

Makes you wonder what if you had no source to download ARR's music from illegaly, would you buy his albums to hear them..........would it make a difference in the sales figures of his albums? I reckon it would. Ppl have stopped buying his albums when there are advanced negative reports on films he composes for that seem uninteresting but yet keep on downloading his music regardless of the film's hype or ultimate outcome just to find out what he has done in the movie. If that interest could be diverted back to buying albums, it would make a significant difference to album sales and hence popularity of the films and his numbers just like before. RDB happens to be the first well promoted album of ARR since way back, the first to be available on time and the best total quality film he has been associated with in quite sometime. Once again, these points do make you wonder.........does that explain why and what has been happening, cause nothing else does..........so far as his compositions are concerned, they have all been different and ones that people do end up connecting to in the long run. And they have all been more or less gems in their own rights, new sounds, new rhythems, new presentations, graphs, styles, jazz, english classical, traditional indian, pop, rock, blues and so forth.........so why has there been little apprecition of this in the wide media..............?

Anyhow, once again with the advent of RDB............appreciation happens to be on a wide scale and as always serves to better the film extensively......as oppossed to  just  merely working to  popularize the movie and not working within the film in the bigger picture.

Was dying to share my thoughts today,
Lots of love to all and God Bless
Matthew Islam
