Aamir’s film is delayed by five days

Daily News and Analysis

The release of the Aamir Khan-starrer Rang De Basanti has been postponed to January 25 in view of “statutory requirements” that have come up, trade sources said. It was to be released on January 20.

The sources said the “objectionable scene” is a shot of Khan riding a horse in the title track. Earlier, the Indian Air Force had wanted the dedication to dead MiG-21 pilots at the end of the film to be excised. In Chennai, Animal Welfare Board of India secretary R Balasubramanyam said, “The producers sent us a fax requesting permission for clearance once again. Board chairman JC Kala will call a meeting shortly to discuss it.”

Former Union minister Maneka Gandhi had raised the issue a few days ago, saying horses used in the film were treated cruelly and used without the AWBI’s prior permission.

But producer Ronnie Screwvala said, “We have followed the law and all requisite permissions were obtained. We are a responsible firm sensitive to animal rights.”
