well, i really don't know what's the criteria for National Award for Best Music direction. If VTV deserves a national award, then I am sure Delhi-6 deserved it last year and Rang De Basanti deserved it the year before. There couldn't have been a better album than Delhi-6 . In fact, I was predicting a national award for it 100% more so because AR brought home the oscars, so as a token of appreciation i thought the committee would give the award to him. Sadly, it did not bag the award.The award went to a more classical music oriented album. If classical music is what the committee is looking for, then I see no reason why Minsaara Kanavu bagged the award and Taal failed to bag it.
