Seems, you are really in need of good music from south. I will make 
it simple to you.

You must be visiting Mumbai. Go to Matunga. On the Matunga Central 
station, towards east platform side, outside the station, there are 
quite a few music stores selling southern language music cassettes 
mainly. I remember buying my first ARR cassette of ROJA ( tamil ) in 
1993 there.

Instead of going to Chennai, you can commence your collection from  
Mumbai.

I have a request to Chennai based fan club. Can you make a package of 
the available Cassettes / Cds which can be bought by the north Indian 
fans. This is ofcourse, if there is no similar service available on 
internet by any of these music stores.
