In a way.. it is a waste of time and space as u said, but in a way, it is a valuable feed back for rahman and his associate as to get to know what actually the rest of us think.
we can't quiet condemn anyone by saying we are not critics, even a little point of ours could contribute to improve his music,or to get a taste of what we want from him.. who knows!! As fans, we have the responsibility to do so. But i certainly agree with you that worthless conversations like actors and actresses in rahmans movies, etc etc can be avoided and even at times, threads like.."I know rahman copied one guys music" or some times "list of loops used by rahman"..
