1. Sonia Gandhi
She hailed from a different race and country, worshipped a different God and
spoke a different language. But still, what she has done for India in the last
ten years has made her a true Indian and fetched her a top position in the most
talked about Indians of the decade. After remaining detached from the Indian
political scene after the demise of Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia finally took the
political plunge in 2004 and there has been no looking back since then.

She has led the Congress to an unanticipated victory at the Lok Sabha election,
chosen Manmohan Singh as the PM, willingly keeping away herself. Soon, the
world realised that the partnership was ‘an all profit’ one and the two revived
the Congress rule and have steered the country towards stability and constant
growth.

2. Sachin Tendulkar
Whoever thought Sachin’s rule was over has another one coming! He has bounced
back and like how! It was in the year 2007, during the DLF cup in Malaysia that
Sachin made a ‘well deserved’ comeback only to respond to the critics who
believed that his career was inexorably sliding with his 40th ODI century. And
soon the master blaster showed his ‘cricketing’ prowess once again! But it was
the end of the decade that saw Sachin at his all time high.

Not only did he complete his twenty shining years on the Indian cricket scene,
but made it all the more special by shining bright as the highest scorer in
both forms of match – ODI and Test Cricket!

3. Amitabh Bachchan
When an ageing Bachchan was getting movies like Lal Badshah and Suryavansham to
prove his worth, wisdom struck and AB became choosy about the roles he did. And
in no time, Big B’s fans witnessed a phoenix-like rising.

Star Plus brought Bachchan into the drawing rooms with Kaun Banega Crore Pati
and since then the Superstar of the Millenia has not looked back. Movies like
Mohobbatein, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Black, Chini Kum and the recent Paa make
Big B a living legend.

4. A R Rahman
We already owe him a big one big for relentlessly bring to us the best in
music, but his latest stint in Hollywood have given Rahman’s fans another
reason to hero worship the gifted musician. After wooing music lovers in India,
Rahman with his ‘Jai Ho’ composition for Slumdog Millionaire, not only bagged
maximum nominations at the Academy Awards, but also brought home the Oscar for
the ‘Best Music Score.’ The man has quietly raised the bar for the Indian music
fraternity to outshine in the international arena.

5. Abhinav Bindra
This shooter got the chance to live the dream that every Indian has cherished –
of brining home the Olympic gold! The quiet and bespectacled Bindra brought
laurels to the nation by getting his hands on the first ever individual Olympic
Gold medal in 108 years.

Thanks to him, the world salutes the Indian national flag and our anthem was
played in the honour of his historic victory! Soon, the ordinary Bindra became
extra-ordinary and the country got another reason to feel proud!
