Good morning folks,

I don't recall seeing anything specific to this before on the list and
wanted to bring it up for advice.

In our current homegrown system, I built an application that is similar
to Asset Management that I call Application Inventory. In it, there is
a list of applications, a list of servers, and a list of people
responsible for those applications and servers as well as the primary
users of those applications.

We are converting to ITSM 7.0, and a major source of contention is that
we will no longer be able to do all of the automated approvals that we
need. For example, right now if someone on the server team wants to do
maintenance on a server, they have to use our home-grown change control
application to do so. When they create the change, it is linked to a
server, which is linked to one or more applications that have primary
I.T. managers responsible for them as well as primary users. Our system
pulls this information and creates approvals (again, a home grown
approval process, not BMC's.)

The problem with the Remedy Approval process is that you can't set it up
to pull in approvals from Asset Management when you relate a CI to a
Change Request. I don't know if this is something BMC plans to add, but
without being able to base approvals off of the people linked to assets,
I'm not really seeing much value in the CMDB. I'd like to know how
other people address this issue, because it looks like it would be a
HUGE customization to modify the Approval process to be able to take Cis
into consideration. Is there any other way to do this that I am
missing?

Thanks,
