I'd like to address some questions about Remedy SLA 6.0, BMC Service Level Management (SLM) 7.0, and AR System 7.0.
Question: Can Remedy SLA 6.0 run on AR System 7.0? Will my Remedy SLA 6.0 license keys work with AR System 7.0? Answer: AR System 7.0 is compatible with Remedy SLA 6.0. Remedy SLA 6.0 keys will continue to work with AR System 7.0. There are a few things to be aware of when using Remedy SLA 6.0 on AR System 7.0 platform. A knowledge base entry will be posted shortly on this topic. The following excerpt shows highlights of what will be posted: 1. When you upgrade AR System to version 7.0 with SLA 6.0 installed or if you install SLA 6.0 on AR System 7.0, you may see some errors reported from the SLA engine upon starting up AR server. Reboot the machine; the error is reported only on initial startup but the engine continues to re-connect correctly to AR Server and functions as expected. 2. The syntax for the import command has changed in AR System 7.0. This makes the Remedy SLA import feature work incorrectly. There is a workaround for doing a command line import instead of using the import feature in the SLA Console. See the knowledge base entry for details. There will also be a patch available soon to address the import issue in Remedy SLA 6.0. Question: Can BMC Service Level Management 7.0 work with BMC Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) 6.0 applications including Help Desk, Change Management, and Asset Management? Answer: BMC Service Level Management 7.0 includes out-of-the-box AR Integrations to BMC Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) version 7.0 applications. Out-of-the-box AR Integrations to the ITSM version 6.0 applications are not included today. BMC is preparing a white paper to provide the steps on how to integrate SLM 7.0 with ITSM 6.0 applications. Note that AR System version 7.0 is required for SLM 7.0; SLM 7.0 does not run on any AR System version prior to 7.0. Question: Do I need to complete my implementation of SLM 7.0 and the upgrade/migration from Remedy SLA 6.0 by June 2007? Do I need to pay for the BMC SLM 7.0 license keys? Answer: The June 2007 deadline is the date by which Remedy SLA customers should place their order with their sales representative for the BMC SLM application and licenses. Doing so by this date will allow you to obtain the SLM product for zero license fees (note that maintenance fees may be affected). Remedy SLA customers are entitled to the SLM application license plus the same number of user licenses as they own in Remedy SLA for zero license fees (note that maintenance fees may be affected). You do not need to implement SLM 7.0 or perform the upgrade/migration from Remedy SLA 6.0 by this date.
