A $50,000 thank-you

Six months later, on Dec. 19, 2000, Weldon is back at the trailer.

He tells Konvitz that the Ocean Township Council will soon vote on a
zoning change for Apple Farms.

That change, Weldon says, will permit Apple Farms to increase the
number of homes from 30 to 75.

A thankful Konvitz offers Weldon $5,000 for his help on the project
that day.

Weldon declines, but says he will take the money once the rezoning is
formally approved.

That approval comes on Feb. 28, 2001, when Weldon and the council vote
to permit Apple Farms to build 75 homes on the parcel originally zoned
for 30.

Two months later, Weldon gets his "thank-you" for a job well done.

In April, he drives to the West Deal home of Apple Farms developer Gohar.

Outside the house, Gohar gives Weldon a bag.

Inside is $50,000 in cash.

Follow the time line. It's April 2001 when Weldon gets the cash. The
MOU for the WRP is almost wrapped by that time and is signed I think
in April or August 2001. But Weldon was clean in AP right?
