It's really amazing. Apparently the current school board's objective is to
hand over all decisions regarding the district to the state by default simply
by being so blatantly irresponsible and negligent that the state monitor gets
to over-rule literally every vote they take.

In this case the school board was unwilling to accept ANY of the proposals on
the table to reform the school system and attempt to improve things while also
cutting costs given huge defecits and declining enrollment - and in fact
several didn't even show up for the vote. Now they are unwilling to reduce
staff that should decline simply because of the declining enrollment much less
the closing of the school itself.

So basically their message is... "Don't change a thing, everything is working
great."

Thanks to the state monitor for taking charge. Now go the extra mile and close
the district so none of the board members ever need be involved again.

See below - part of a much longer article.

>From the Asbury Park Press:

"State fiscal monitor Bruce Rodman, who holds power over financial matters and
hiring and firing in the district, ordered the school closed July 1 last month
because of declining enrollment and for financial and reorganization reasons.

A five-member faction that gained control of the nine-member board in late
February opposes the closing of the school, known for most of the past 100
years as the Bangs Avenue School.

The same majority led by Remond Palmer — a former board president whom the
state removed for interfering with employee hiring, but who regained a board
seat a year ago — also refused to back Schools Superintendent Denise Lowe's
previous plan to create new pre-K-to-third-grade early education centers at the
Obama and Thurgood Marshall elementary schools. Older elementary students would
have gone to Bradley Elementary School and all of the schools would have
remained open."
