ASBURY PARK A robber pulled a gun on a city man, struck him in the head and
stole
$10 and a set of keys, police said.
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, the 48-year-old victim was on the 500 block of Grand
Avenue
when the robber approached him and asked him for a light, police said.
When the victim pulled out his cigarette lighter, the robber grabbed his arm
and then
pulled out a revolver, said Capt. David Kelso.
The victim grabbed the gun and wrestled with the robber, but the thief punched
victim in
the jaw, said Kelso.
The victim fell down, but wrapped his legs around the robber and continued to
wrestle
with him.
That's when the robber struck the victim on the head with the gun several
times, then
reached into the victim's pants pocket and stole $10 and a set of keys, said
Kelso.
The robber broke free of the victim's grasp and he ran way, heading north on
Grand
Avenue, toward Library Park.
The victim was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for
abrasions.
The robber was described as a black man, who was about 25- to 27 years old,
wearing a
black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and two baseball caps -- a black and
yellow hat with
the letter P on the front, and a red, white and blue Giants cap.
Officer Chenice Wesley responded to the scene, while Detective Steven Ramseur
is
handling the follow-up investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call
