AP Listserve Members:

I just got the following from Alex Idavoy, an AP resident who is an instructor at Brookdale.  My wife Leslie and I will most likely be going to see the film.  If you want to go and would like to car pool with us from AP, let me know.

2005 Foreign Film Fest Opens January 28
Community and Students Invited to Brookdale Event

Lincroft, NJ- Brookdale's International Center will open the Spring 2005 Foreign Film Fridays Series on January 28 with Battle of Algiers. The free film viewing will be held in the NAS building, room 100 at 7:00 p.m. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Parking is most convenient in lot #6.

The movie is in French and Arabic with English subtitles. Director Gillo Pontecorvo presents a harrowing, documentary-style depiction of the Algerians' struggle to liberate themselves from France between 1954 and 1962. The film creates a stunning illusion of realism by combining actual newsreel footage with staged sequences featuring actors playing characters based on real people. It emphasizes the organization of guerrilla forces and the methods of political torture and violence used by the French government to stifle resistance. The film was re-released in 2003.

The International Center sponsors a variety of foreign films throughout the semester. For families, a special PG rated film, Cinema Paradiso, will be presented April 22.
For more information on upcoming films and additional events, call the International Center at 732-224-2799.
