ASBURY PARK — A city man, who is accused of threatening a woman with
a box cutter, dragging her into a vacant building and sexually
assaulting her, was arrested last week in Delaware, police said.

Michael Anthony Askins, 43, of Heck Street, Asbury Park, was arrested
on March 13 and charged with aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping
and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, said Capt. Dave
Kelso.

In November the victim, a 49-year-old city woman, was sexually
assaulted inside the basement of a vacant building on the 1200 block
of Grand Avenue, said Kelso.

He said the incident has been under investigation since November, and
earlier this month, police signed a complaint against Askins.

Asbury Park Detective Connie Breech and Monmouth County Prosecutor's
Office Detective Patrick J. O'Connell located Askins in Delaware,
where they took him into custody.

Askins is being held in the Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $500,000
bail.

The investigation is continuing, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Breech at (732) 502-5777.
