I've been hearing this rumor about orthodox jews taking over -- along with "the Koreans are taking over starting at the BC Hotel" and "the gays are taking over" since I moved to Asbury Park five years ago. I think there was a rumor that "the Italians are taking over" when Italians started to move into the Northwest part of town in the beginning of the Century. There's the "Blacks are taking over" rumor too... and of course all anyone has to do is look at the size of the Haitian population to know that "they're taking over too --  did you know that Creole is the #2 most spoken language in Asbury Park? I've even heard rumor that New Yorker's from Brooklyn are buying up property in Asbury Park for "investment purposes." Imaging that!

There was an interesting presentation at last night's City Council meeting put on by officials from Neptune. (That's the town that borders us where "Those pesky Methodists took over whole sections" back a really long time ago)... Anyway the officials were there as a courtesy to Asbury Park to present their plans for the Neptune section of Springwood Avenue... They talked about how the relatively small 3.5  block stretch of that one street had just received planning board approval AFTER SEVEN YEARS OF WORK!!

Compare that to the three years it took to go from MOU to shovels and I don't know how anyone can label the level of activity on the waterfront as "waste is being laid on AP"...

All anyone has to do is open their eyes to see two large-scale construction sites and a major infrastructure plan in progress. There's another whole-block project "minutes" away from launch (Metro Home) and other developers (who are not orthodox jews) are actively working on the former Salvation Army block.
