>From APP "The majority of students want to attend the funeral Saturday," McDavid said. "Because of the high number of attendance at the funeral on Saturday, and the fact that Asbury does not have lights at the football field, Barnegat has been gracious enough to offer their facility on Friday night to help accommodate and ease a difficult situation."
But in a release distributed Wednesday, Barnegat officials said potential discomfort or tension could arise at a Saturday game here because Pugh's memorial service was set for the same day. Following the shooting, Barnegat officials had contacted McDavid and Asbury Park Athletic Director Ronald Standridge to offer condolences and express their reservations, the statement said. "At the time, Ms. McDavid felt there was no good reason why our kids shouldn't play at Asbury Park," Barnegat Superintendent Thomas C. McMahon said in the statement. "But we felt and still do feel differently, as do many of our parents." In the release, McMahon cited concerns with holding the game here Saturday. "The school was closed two days last week for a reason. I am sure there are still some very raw feelings there," he said in the release. Yahoo!
