Asbury Park Council Chambers, Tuesday, September 25th, 7:00 p.m.

Tomorrow night the Asbury Park Zoning Board of Adjustments will meet
to hear the summation arguments from the Attorneys representing Stand
Up For Asbury and the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission. It is possible
that the Board may come to a decision regarding the variances that
were issued to this evangelical operation. Supporters of Stand Up
For Asbury are urgently requested to attend.

Stand Up For Asbury opposes this Gospel Rescue Mission because it
invites homeless men from all over the State of New Jersey and beyond
to spend up to ten nights on cots in its dormitory. The Mission
weeds through these men in search of religious converts. Of the
thousands of men the Mission intends to bring to Asbury Park every
year, only a few will enter the Mission's longer term
fundamentalist "New Reality of Recovery Program". The rest are
dumped onto the streets of our city.

So many of the homeless that the Mission has brought to Asbury Park
are now sleeping and panhandling on our streets. The men have
effectively become wards of our city and more are coming every day.
It is important to point out that many of these homeless men are drug
addicts, alcoholics, pedophiles and ex-cons. The Gospel Mission also
takes in referrals from prisons, public defenders and psychiatric
wards. The Mission conducts no criminal background checks and is not
subject to any form of federal, state or city regulation.

The Asbury Park Zoning Board's greatest concern should be for the
citizens of Asbury Park and their quality of life. This inundation
of homeless to our city stretches the resources of our Police, Fire,
EMT and Social Service Departments. It is a tremendous financial
burden to our city and threatens our security, especially the
security of our children.

Yesterday, many of you attended our legal fundraiser at the Cabana
Club. Stand Up For Asbury would like to thank all of you who
attended. The turnout and generosity surpassed our expectations.

We still urgently need to raise money for our legal fees. Those of
you who missed our fundraiser but would like to contribute can do so
