OCEAN TOWNSHIP The school district will lose six elementary school teachers, three full-time secretaries, 11 athletic or co-curricular faculty positions, the Youth Government Club and the high school coffee house as part of sweeping budget cuts planned for the next school year. On top of that, the tax rate would increase under the $63.3 million budget adopted by the Board of Education Tuesday night. The owner of property assessed at the township average of $445,000 would be billed an extra $209 later this year (that's $17.42 per month) for the school district. Board President William J. Garofalo blamed the 4.7-cent increase in the school tax rate on the rising cost of special education, frozen state aid, unfunded government mandates such as No Child Left Behind, and rising fuel, energy and insurance costs, among other factors.
