Has anyone heard an update on Jason's condition? I never knew him very well, but we went to school together so I did know him years ago... haven't seen him since high school but hope that he is ok!

Fazio, 41, acting captain of the truck company on the shift, went into the 400 Main St. building which contains 12 second-floor apartments and stores on the first floor at the corner of Main Street and Bangs Avenue, across from the city post office. No one was home in the one apartment that was gutted in the fire. He dove out of the second story apartment to save himself, Fire Chief Kevin Keddy said. Fazio suffered fractured bones secondary to his burns, Keddy said. Fire officials said they were waiting for medical authorities at the burn center to give an assessment of Fazio's conditions. Earlier reports were that it was at least second-degree burns, Mayor Ed Johnson said. Fazio's injuries happened on his 41st birthday. He was hired as a firefighter in 1994. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the county Fire Marshal's Office, and state Division of Fire Safety, were all investigating the fire Monday. The cause of the fire was still being determined. "This is a big puzzle we're putting together and until we put all the pieces together, we aren't going to have all the answers,'' said Garrett Giberson, the city fire official, said. One apartment next to the gutted apartment also was damaged from the fire as well as a first-floor restaurant. In all, families from four of the apartments went to hotels, or homes of friends or relatives Monday night, said Leo B. Pratte, chief disaster and logistics officer for the American Red Cross, Jersey Coast Chapter. Residents from all of the apartments who were home Monday were housed and given food by the Red Cross at the nearby City Hall Council Chambers. "Our immediate concern is for the health and well being of Jason and for the comfort of his family and safety and safe lodgings of the apartment residents,'' Johnson said.
