Title: RE: [AsburyPark] To: Keady From: Asbury People

BIB - Madison and Jefferson were able to do their part in forming the Constitution because they were extremely well educated.  They were immersed in Greek and Roman studies and relied heavily on that classical tradition as well as other more contemporary sources of political science.  Government was what they did day in and day out.  They were chosen because they were the best available.  If there was someone available who had written a Constitution that person probably would have been chosen instead and rightfully so.  Maybe they would have done a better job.

Oprah did not quit high school one day and spring into success the next but was self educated and committed to an area of work which she diligently pursued - hence the "experience" that Jim referred to.  Moreover, with out the education, experience and financing of the King Brothers, Oprah would not be where she is today.  None of the greats mentioned so far did it alone.  All of them needed professional assistance to resolve career obstacles and perform necessary services that they could not have accomplished alone or without the "expertise."

No one is saying that an expert is all knowing but rather that expertise is necessary in certain situations.  That's why you MUST have an expert to bring a malpractice action and certain other actions.  Just because you don't have to believe everything a well paid expert says in a Court of law doesn't mean that there's no value to the experience of experts at all.   Otherwise why have them much less require them?  Jim's post makes clear that he would go to Oprah for her expertise if he had a question on television or the pulse of America or any other thing she does "day in and day out." He would probably go to Rush Limbaugh if he needed demagoguery and twisting of facts.  But then we have the poor man's Rush Limbaugh already.

You are wrong Jim.  "People" in Asbury have all of the above. Your
eliltism once again boils over. Have some faith in the "people" of
Asbury Park.

Jim, using your standard of automatic deference to those with such
experience, Jefferson would not have been asked to write the
Declaration of Independance, because he never wrote one before.
Madison would not have been asked to write the Constitution, because
he never wrote one before. I think they did a pretty good job.

There is a reason juries are instructed that they are free to not
believe the expert witnesses that are testifying in front of them.
That's right Jim, everyday in Court we allow plumbers and teachers
to disagree with, say, expert real estate appraisers who own their
own real estate appraisal companies.  Why? Because in America we
have always relied upon the collective common experience of people
to make decisions.

If you wish the world to be run by people with higher degrees only,
you are going to miss out on the works of some seriously successful
people who went no further than high school.  Oprah Winfrey and Rush
Limbaugh just to name a couple.
