Ten thousand Assamese villagers under seize by the India Army.

Lachit Borua(Laaciit Borooaa) Tinisukia(Tiiniisookiiaa): 11 September 05: Ten thousand Assamese villagers are in a dire strait due to a seize by Indian army since 31 August 2005, around two villages, Laika( Laaiqaa) and Dodhia( Dodhiiaa) inside the Dibru-Saikhowa(Dibroo-SaiKhowaa) National Forest Reserve, on the pretext of an operation against the ULFA.

Due to lack of food and medicine the villagers are facing starvation and death and on 1o September, Kajolwoti Mili(Kaazolwotii Miilee) an eight year old girl from Laika village actually died as a resukt of this seize.

The seize has halted the livelihood of the villagers of the Mising(Miisiing)Clan, who earns a living as fishermen, farming or doing animal husbandry It has also been reported that The Indian soldiers are torturing the villagers and have taken away the young men. Few hundred have disappeared from the village after the Army arrived.

On 10 September, an innocent villager transporting bamboo on the Dangori(Daangoree) River inside the Dibru-Saikhowa National Reserve was killed labelling him as a ULFA cadre alleged the villagers. His dead body is still lying at Tinisukia(TiiniiSookiiaa) Police Station. Although the Army has identified him as Himangsu Bora(Hiimaangxoo Boraa) alias Subhas ( Xoobhaax) his family has denied this. To stop this Army harassment in Laika-Dodhia All Assam Student Union, Motok Youth Organisation, Tai-Ahom Student Union, AJYCP Tinisukia District, District women’s’ Guild, Tinisukia District ATSA; have sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Commissioner.

As the villagers are being confined to their houses crops have been destroyed by animals roaming free and the villagers are facing a future of total starvation in the coming days. Some people outside the Army cordon tried to make a representation to the Tinisukia District Commissioner,  but, he did not make himself available to receive them. The villagers have decided to disallow their Parliamentary representative Rajoo Sahu(Raazoo Saahoo) to enter their villages again. They are also going to refrain from taking part in future Indian Parliamentary elections.

In this operation against the ULFA, the 4 Jat Regiment has been joined by 5th and 6th Madras regiment.

Special Reporter, 12 September: When the District Commissioner and the 18 Mountain Brigade HQ was contacted about the situation at Dibru-Saikhowa operation, their response was that there is an ULFA camp inside the reserve forest and the operation will continue indefinitely. The commissioner Sanjoy Lohia reassured that the villagers will be supplied ration by the Army and two boats will be made available for the villagers to travel, without delay but people can leave the village only after getting permission from the Army. The Tinisukia Police Superintendent Debajit Hazarika(Debozeet Haazoriiqaa) refused to make any comment about the army action and directed us to contact he District Commissioner.
