Centre should talk directly to ULFA:

During the UPA-Left coordination meeting this evening, the Left parties put forward their "two-pronged approach" of dealing with insurgency: by getting the security forces to deal with attacks and violence while going ahead with the process of seeking a political solution.

The suggestion came even as the Government is scheduled to have the third round of talks on June 22 with the People's Consultative Group, comprising civil society representatives nominated by ULFA. The Left leaders were told at the coordination meeting that the Government was also keen to continue the process of dialogue with the insurgents.

The Left leaders—CPM's Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury, CPI's A B Bardhan and Forward Bloc's Debabrata Biswas—advocated a similar approach in Jammu and Kashmir where the Prime Minister recently held talks: of trying to find a political solution to the separatist movement while allowing the security forces to deal with the violence.
