World’s biggest event welcomes Assamese literary works

Guwahati, Sep 10:There has been rarely any recognition as honourable as this for the literary works of Assam as Frankfurt Book Fair of Germany, biggest of its kind under the sun, has invited the participation of Assamese literary works in its ensuing fair in 2006. 

The Frankfurt Book fair in 2006 will witness India as the guest of the honour country where as many as 110 countries would participate. 

The invitation from the German delegates on their last visit to India, specifically to New Delhi to participate in a meeting, which was hosted by the National Book Trust.

Talking to northeasttribune.com, Imran Ahmed, senior member of All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association said that the synopsis of different acclaimed book of the State would be send very soon to Germany through mail which would be translated there. 

“Interestingly, there are people in Germany who can translate the literary works from Assamese to English”, Ahmed informed.  

On being asked the names of the books that are likely to be send to the worlds biggest fair, Ahmed said that they are contemplating on sending books that have got recognition with awards like Jnanpeeth award, Sahitya Academy award specially those which throws light on the life and teachings of Srimanta Sankardev and Madhabdev. 

The association is also brainstorming on trying to make the copyright sales of the Assamese books possible through this fair. 

It can be mentioned that India participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair in the year 1986,but for Assam this is the maiden opportunity.
