yep, ASSP sits on its own box.
everyone is happy.
just because others figured it out doesnt mean the docs are clear
they arent
nevertherless, the DNS settings were the last part.
now to make it work with groupwise and its single MTA situation...

IF anyone wants to know, it was the MS DNS Settings:
1) Create new A record with assoc PTR record in "company.local" domain for
the ASSP box
2) Call it "spamfilter" or something unique (not the same name as the child
domain below) - my mistake!
3) Create a subdomain
