Support is more critical then anything else, i guess :)
Most Enterprises can be ok if their Web Server is down for 2 mins, but
they are not ok, if their PBX is down for 2 mins :)
So simply they cant take any chances with OpenSource model for support
of their PBX, unless otherwise

I thought the main focus here was that it should be a hardware based

One question on these servers. You state 100's or 1000's of PRI

hard to see how it would physically fit in the chassis.

Wow, 4 days of uptime. Quite a testimonial!
But seriously, I have nothing against Trixbox as it's pretty close to
CentOS+FreePBX with a bunch of other crap thrown in. If your doing big
serious installs why not just install CentOS+FreePBX???

I agree. We use Asterisk networked with an existing IP based Avaya platform.
We use ooh323 and Third Lane on top of a standard Red Hat ES and Asterisk
installation. Very flexible and manageable due to Third Lane.

I'm looking to use SIP or AIX gateways to deliver the calls

That was a joke, right?
Trixbox is exactly that: Centos + FreeePBX ! + a bunch of other very
customizable stuff + you can always call custom contexts and do whatever
you like your way.
I do have another site (smaller, only 100+ DIDs and about 30 IP Phones)

If your doing big serious installs why not just install FreePBX?
CentOS is not the only OS FreePBX will run on.
Let get it right FreePBX is only the user interface software not really
based OS
Why I say that is FreePBX is PHP

No joke,
You said it yourself, Trixbox is exactly that so if you know what your
doing why do you need to use it? The first rule is KISS and the second rule
is KISS as well IMHO.
