Of course. A softphone is just a SIP based phone implemented in software
rather than standalone hardware, but it's fully compatible and works the
same as any other SIP phone connected to Asterisk. A hardware based
endpoint has no idea about the nature of the endpoint on the other end.

I agree with what Alex just wrote as far as my personal perception

Again if a customer wants reliable I would never sell them or
recommend a foip based solution. Make sure they understand reliable
means 'probably but no guarantee'. Whether it's hylafax or fax for
asterisk you need a t38 provider either wAy if you're going to go down
that road. I have it

original poster to understand the issues and decide if t.38 is for him.

Hylafax is reliable, but faxing over IP is not particularly reliable. I
used hylafax + asterisk + TDMoE (RedFone FoneBridge 2 which I have for sale)
to bulk fax thousands of payment due notices every day without a glitch, but
I was using voice channels on a T-1 to handle the faxing. T.38 really

FYI, this response is from the same guy that wanted to "buy my FoneBridge"
and instead all he could ask about was "premium minutes" once I contacted
him.

Once again, take a look at NMI.COM. I'm starting to sound like I work for
them, but
nobody seems to be looking at them so I have to keep reiterating.

Here's where you guys are getting confused. He does not WANT a merchant
account. I ran into this as well when trying to find a gateway provider.
Almost EVERYONE wants to sell you a merchant account and wont do business
with you unless you have a merchant account through them. The poster here

This will be available in about 2 weeks (possibly less), but I figured it
might take a while to move it so I'm posting it now while we transition it
out of production. It's been up and running since Dec 2007 without a single
hiccup. Red-fone themselves helped me configure it and since then, it's
