Yes, it is possible. Stick to Sangoma.
If all you need is a stable gateway functionality I would use Yate instead
of Asterisk.

You may want to look at connecting off the list, we are in Mumbai and
have handled similar requirements and fine tuned the asterisk box to
handle that much of load, on the config that you are suggesting.

If you use a Gateway instead of a e1 card you will save CPU load.
This means that with that server you can run 500 calls.
obviusly you O.S. must be well configured to handle so many calls.
Check to Do not do any transcoding, load file to play into RAM, and rise
up open file limit.
