Ideally you'd get billing to work by integrating directly with the
property management software. Most of the big PMS systems, such as SMS,
LMS, and FRS, have custom serial drivers written for them that interface
with the PBX and related systems. The PMS software is responsible for

Two ways:
1. Call forward the first extension in a busy condition to another
extension registered on the phone. I use trixbox and with that it's a
I’d think you’d
want Asterisk to sit between the T1 and the D500. Pump the T1 directly in
and then pump it directly out. Logic in the middle to record the call is
left as an exercise for the reader.
They make off-the-shelf
products to do this. I don’t

We need to run Ethernet out to a really long distance –
20,000ft. We have the ability to put a powered repeater in at about
12,000’. We can run it using up to 4 pairs. Any
recommendations on products that will reach that far? We’re
Yes.

Asterisk is to start with the Trixbox distribution (www.trixbox.org). You can quickly do some
very complicated things – IVR’s, extensions, trunks, etc. In the
end, trixbox just writes out the configuration into the normal /etc/asterisk files
If
not,
go get them now. I'll wait. So in sip.cfg in the section

need a line like:

I have these instructions on the wiki in the comments section. I had a hard
time following the directions too, but I finally got it to work:
We've got 3 things going on with setting up Auto Answer and Ring Answer. Let's
detail this process from beginning to end using Ring Answer as our example
I think an easy solution for you might be along the lines of #3 but
using something like one of these devices:

The ComSwitch 3.0, 5500, and 7500 are all "exclusionary" devices. If
you're dialing outbound through it, Asterisk won't be allowed to pick up
Anyone know of an ATA that supports lamping the message
waiting lamp on a phone? We did an install with a bunch of Sipura 2002’s.
According to the product info they have message waiting indicator support and I
took that to mean lamp support. Nope – stutter tone only.
The place answering the calls is generally known as the PSAP ("public
safety answering point"). As others noted, test calls are fine as long
as you call the non-emergency number first to let them know you're about
to do it. I'll admit I don't always call in advance though. Anyway,

We’re using Polycom 601’s and I was wondering if
there was a way to do transfers by simply pressing the “Transfer”
button followed by the extension. Currently you need to hit “Transfer”,
extension, and then a transfer soft key. That extra soft key is

I ran into an odd problem last night. I had to walk
someone through troubleshooting a problem and they didn’t have a lot of
knowledge, so I couldn’t garner a lot of info. So my question is
two fold regarding the issue described below:

Really dumb solution - can you use Polycom 30

It's blind - so it's working as expected. On a blind transfer the phone
set disconnects as soon as you press "blind". Just make sure you do a
supervised transfer instead

For completeness, I'll include my solution this problem: use a different
phone. For some reason the 601 I was testing with only allowed 1

Thanks for the encouragement.. I need it right now. The install just

I’m stumped on this one and any help would be greatly
appreciated.
I’m just trying to get my Polycom 601 to have multiple
extensions on it. For example, on line 1 I want extension 21, on line 2 I
want extension 22, and on line 3 I want extension 23. Ideally I’d
