Maybe it was all compiled out of order.
I believe that Zaptel has to be compiled AND installed before compiling
asterisk to compile the zap channel.

This usually happens when chan_zap.so won't load. The number one cause
for this is a zapata.conf configuration
Have you tried to run the command core show channeltypes? If you don't see
an entry for Zap, it's possible that the channel chan_zap failed to load for
some reason. If this is the case, you should try to analize the asterisk log
to see why the channel refused to load.

Hmmm I've just found that chan_zap.so is not compiled in my system, I'm
not sure why but I'll try recompiling Asterisk and see what happens, thank
