Jerry, back in August you were thinking about putting 4 T1 cards in a
single box--did you end up doing that and how did it work out? We're
looking at 700-800 lines for an app and are trying to figure out how
many machines we'll need.
Has anyone else done more than 2 quad T1 cards?

is that advisable?
What about running AGI's on such a machine.
Will the machine handle starting/stopping all those AGI's?

700-800 is the maximum limit without transcoding on very optimized setup. I
would call it suicide without a failover solution. Why dont you consider the
dns srv for load balancing among 2 servers ?

I'm pretty sure he was asking about a minimum of two boxes. 4 quad T1
cards would only be 16 x 24 = 384 lines. I agree to a point though - if
you have a service that is utilizing close to 800 lines and half of your
service suddenly bites the dust you would probably be in a world of hurt.

red-fone T1 to Ethernet bridges to
handle 900 concurrent calls.

what about realtime and dundi? one asterisk for register and then many for
the T1 cards you use dundi to route the calls if one server fail the system
will repleace it...
and a the dual core are cheap now so it is not a big issue buy 4 or five.

You mean running , 400 Calls on 1 BOX ?
Even if you COULD do it, the gods of TELCO would have you burn in hell
for stacking that much critical traffic on ONE Intel, non - high
availability box

If you had a dax in front of all your circuits, you could move them
from one server to another without physically touching anything.
I've done about 300 calls on a dual processor box doing just SIP with
an entirely AGI based setup and it held up just fine, but doing TDM,
I'd worry about you
2 or 3 cheaper gateway machines that have just the T1 cards in it,
will do way better than one monstrous machine.

We run VICIdial here for about 255 agents, and we're doing that on
roughly 11 dialler boxes with 2-3 spans and 15-22 f
I am not about to change the camp here but sipx claim that they can do it
with external audiocodes gateways, i have no experience with sipx. Whatever
you choose you need a good redundancy here, also a cost in involved, lets
see:

The PCI bus should be rather bored with 2Mbps per card. Only one card
should interrupt, but I am not sure whether Sangoma or Dig
