I deleted the virtual Astlinux and redid it. It worked. I have no idea what
went wrong the first time.

I just tried the latest VirtualBox on my Mac OS X system and I was able to use
the latest "Guest VM x86-64bit (Video Console):" Install ISO and our
instructions, and it all worked as expected.
Your "error zeroing first 1 GB" would imply the VirtualBox virtual drive was
not created pro
