Maybe leaving WOW enabled is leaving the PCIe PHYs online and active? And/or USB/bluetooth? It has to be drawing significant current for it to flatten the battery whilst suspended, so my guess is that quite a large chunk of the hardware between the NIC and the battery is not fully suspended. -a
