This broke for me with the most recent kernel, too. Turns out the mceusb
driver is now in the kernel. To get this to work, I needed to upgrade
from 0.87 to O.9 lirc and remove the lirc-kmdl.

Axel hit it on the head. I failed to unload the lirc_dev module. Can't
believe I'm getting that slow
