Emacs ends up trying to run commands like 'xelatex %(extraopts)

And is unhappy about the (extraopts) bits, i.e. reports:

I imagine it's something in my setup, as I had (some time ago) adjusted

Thanks for this.
However, I get an error when I try to evaluate it. Emacs doesn't know
what function alist-set is? I'm guessing this is taken from a larger

Thanks again
For orgmode, I have a setup that calls up latexmk and automatically
provides the proper flags for luatex and xetex based on detection of a
string in the buffer like #+LATEX_CMD: lualatex.*
I'm wondering how to:
(1) Add Latexmk as a C-c C-c command for AUCTeX, and set it as default.
(2) Institute
OK, you're right, doesn't seem to have anything to do with synctex. I
realised that even without compiling, every time I opened a .tex file I
started to get memory leaks (quicker when I scrolled up and down through
the text). It didn't really matter if it was a luatex file or not -- luatex
is a
the memory leak. Of course, it could be something peculiar to my
specific synctex setup (but I don't seem to have the same issue with
vanilla latex)
