Re: I screwed up my computer, help
You can both stop and disable a Windows service. I believe stop is until the system is restarted, disabled is until you re-enable it. But I'm not 100% on this, it's possible stop does roughly the same thing.

Re: I screwed up my computer, help
No, if you disable a Windows service, it's disabled until you re-enable it.

Re: I screwed up my computer, help
Still confused about what Omer said about stopping services though. Unless something's set to be disabled, I thought it would just run again once the system was restarted.

rofl kill explorer in task manager, then alt and down arrow to new task run and type explorer.exe? NVDA and JFW both because of remote procedure bla bla bla sometimes have a habit of killing/crashing explorer for ya, and even when that is not the case
Re: I screwed up my computer, help

Explorer will come back at a restart. In general, I'm guessing it wasn't the process being killed. It would be hard--not impossible, but hard--to break the machine permanently by killing a process with task manager. That said, if reinst
Re: I screwed up my computer, help
I've killedv my File Explorer and nothing even remotely close to this has ever happened to me. If it consistantly happens, maybe try to narrow down at what point it stops happening, and what's going on at that time.

Why would you start shutting down random process via task manager? If you're trying to kill some malware, it will probably disguise as some windows process and restart itself again if you kill it, so I'd say take it to the repair guy for a c

Why would you start shutting down random process via task manager? It's your own stupidity that's killing the computer, nothinhg else.
