Re: Sell me arch
I think the best way to experience Linux at first is to create a virtual machine on, say, a Windows host, which will let you install the system and not have to deal with the vagaries of physical hardware. This holds true for Arch as well as any other bistro.Unrelated

Re: Sell me arch
Again, get manjaro. I've made a custom spin of manjaro with speech if you're interested. It has a live mate session so you can mess around. I'll be pushing an updated image soon with latest package versions, since the last update i made was in july.

Re: Sell me arch
Hmm, so I'm a little bit more soled now.I think if I had, A, an easier way to install it, or B, a dystrobution I could just bang on to a USB drive or whatever and try, I'd try it. I mean, I thought about jennux as well, but the link seems to be broken, and besides it seems
Re: Sell me arch
Agreed.Arch is a good bistro for configuring things by hand, and it's fairly easy to package software which isn't available for it already, if you feel so inclined. It's just smooth, well-documented, and designed to be simple and get out of your way for the most part.

Re: Sell me arch
@5, there's no standard in regards to package managers. You can't say Apt is one. And Arch is actually a very useful LInux distro. You learn all about Linux in the process of installing it, the package manager is badass, you have a user repository where users
Re: Sell me arch
Is "sudo pacman -Syu" longer than "sudo apt update& apt upgrade"? Dont thing so. These tags are just easier to use if you learn them.

You can use yay as your package manager. It not only handles everything pacman does, but also the AUR as well.

Re: Sell me arch
Thhe package manager, if you get used to it, is just so so so much better then apt-get/whatever else you use. The installer is complicated, but what do you have manjaro for?

Sell me arch
Hey all,So I'll admit I've never fully understood why so many people seem to like / prefer this over mate based dystroes. I just don't get it. The weird ass package manager, the stupid installer you have to know inside out in order to use successfully, unless you use a spinoff
