That is very strange. Pressing and holding option when you hear the boot chime for about 5 or 10 seconds should pop up that menu where you left and right arrow to choose a bootable disk. I believe it's part of the hardware. When I

If it is booting to that usb drive, then it is not a big problem when it comes to a clean install. If you make the USB drive in question into your installation disc and if it boots to it, then you will find your self in the installation
