midi connection from IPhone to PC

Hi all,
Over the three years I've had an IOS device, one of the things I've been meaning to do with it for a while is to use it to create music, and to do that, many apps use the popular midi standard. And this is where I run into trouble. I'm trying to find a way to connect my phone to my PC as a midi interface.
I've tried exploring several options, some of which were software only, that is, all you need is the lightning cable and a USB connection to make these work.
I tried RPT Midi which is a utility which can be used to transfer midi over Wifi. It works reasonably well but requires me to be on a private network which I had to set up specially for this task, so that means I can't be connected to the Internet while using it.
I also tried a program called Midi LE I believe, but that does not work well with 64 bit Itunes and the latest IOS. The issue is apparently to do with the64 bit  version of the drivers that I Tunes installs. I had it working for a time but I had to dig long and hard for a version of ITunes that would work with the app. Since I do use ITunes occasionally, I can't be running an old version of it, particularly with IOS 9 being out.
I also was told to try midimux, but haven't really played with that yet and would rather find out if it was accessible and workable first.
I also tried purchasing an IRig midi interface, but the one I got doesn't allow you to charge your device while it is in use. So basically you plug one end of the cable into the phone's lightning port and plug the other end into the interface, which is then connected to the PC through USB. It works but is inconvenient as then I have to keep swapping cables out to charge my battery every few hours.
Before I go trying anything else, I figured I'd just put this question out there so I don't end up going down another dead ally.
What are the preferred ways to connect an IPhone 6 ru nning IOS 9 to a PC running Win 7 64 bit? Would I be better off buying a physical midi interface, or can I do it with some utility that only needs the standard lightning to USB connection? My guess is a physical interface would be better, but the disadvantage to that is that then the interface has to supply power to the device to allow for continuous use. Given the fact that my IRig does not seem to have a way to do this, I'm being very cautious before buying another interface. I don't need anything fancy either, in fact getting something fancy now would probably just make it that much harder for me to figure out. All I need is something to connect my phone to the PC, preferably through USB, that can also supply power to the phone.
Does anyone have any advice?
