Take a look at the Pioneer VSX-1015TX. On the AVS forums it's been
compared to the Elite models.

I forgot: also the analog output polarity was corrected around this
time... may have been a slightly later rev - check the archives.

Absolutely, which is why we support FLAC to begin with. The lower data
rate means not only more buffering, but also less network usage.
However unless you're getting

The only time I did a blind test I failed to do more than guess (wrong

A fairly unimpressive assertion for those of us who know about sean's

After fw15 the volume curve was changed to provide more resolution on
the low end. This used a wider multiplier and a bug was immediately
reported in the calculation of the
Well, a buddy of mine has a few nice big batteries and a charge
circuit... so it looks like I'll be making a battery PSU that charges
when the squeezebox is turned off. :)

For #3 there's one very obvious and proven difference - with client side
decoding the very start or end of tracks can get cut off. This is an
acknowledged bug (1434) and has been reported by many people. The
workaround is to use server side decoding for flac.

1) is there anything audibly special about fw15?

That comes with a free 30 day trial, then you have to register it.
Give it a go and see what you think.
I intend to try it out when I get round to ripping the soundtracks from
some of the live music dvds that I have lying around.

IF you'll be using MP3, I'd stick to stereo tracks.
Google DVDDECRYPTER
Once you install it, there's an option to rip by chapter and demux the
audio.
As you'll be using MP3, you may have stereo AC3 tracks in your DVD. Use
FOOBAR with AC3 plugin to convert them to MP3.
If you have multichannel

Did he have a wrong setting or was he *appearing* to hear a difference
betwen wav and flac (please note the word "appearing").
The shortest answer wins the prize.
