Also keep in mind that some internet radio stations apply DSP
enhancement to the signal before converting to MP3 and sending it down
the pipe. So this enhancement can actually sometimes seem to sound
even better than your CD copy does, in some instances...

Any clock signal extracted from s/pdif would be much worse than the
internal clock.

Yes, but...
You may find controlling the Receiver from your computer a bit awkward,
a remote is more convenient.
The good news is that the whole Squeeze family has been proven to be
capable of being totally bit perfect on many occasions. The only time
it isn't is if you start invoking things l
I am investigating using a Squeezebox receiver with feeding a DAC, most
probably the Cambridge Dacmagic, which I am finding to be excellent.
Do I need to have a full Duet package - ie the remote and the SB
receiver in order to get a signal to the receiver, or can I just do

Good point about the spdif interfaces being an unneccessary source of
jitter. Duh! Guess I was just asking cuz I'll likely get a DIP 4896

The latest versions of the TP firmware do allow for an external "digital
effects" loop, so at first glance this could be done. I'm not sure,
however, if it would work with an upsampler in the loop. If Sean or
someone else doesn't pipe up and say yes or no, I have both a
transporter, and an exter
Reading the November Stereophile review of the Shanling MC-3000 got me
thinking about partnering this valve/solid-state hybrid with my
Transporter. This would replace an Arcam Solo Music.
But I've also read that the FM Radio in the Shanling is not so good.
Any views?

You wouldn't want to do this, it would probably cause more jitter since
the jitter as seen by the onboard DAC is lower than that of the SPDIF
board.
The DAC is also a delta-sigma style DAC and gets no improvement from
upsampling.

Monarchy, among others, makes very good jitter reduction/upsampler boxes
(i.e Monarchy DIp 4896 Upsampler) that go btween a transport and a DAC.
In the case of the forementioned Monarchy one, it also upsamples to
24/96 if set accordingly. My question is this:
Since the Transporter's digital out

I wouldn't say that. You haven't seen every product made by every
manufacturer. Single-supply DACs are nowhere near as expensive as the
older dual-supply R-2R DACs. And some very expen

Kinda all of the above. I did some work on several SB3 to get rid of
this problem, and it did not completely go away. Th

He is now selling the 6/4, but earlier models can be upgraded, which is
my plan.
