I just bought this yesterday without knowing about the CODE dvd. It's the first JM album I've bought since The Lonesome Jubilee so was very pleased to find the 24/96 wavs on the DVD. I just copied them in, converted them to 24/96 flacs on off it goes. It's a lovely organic sound typical of T

Further to my original post I can confirm the UK supplyer is now listing the DACMAGIC on their website for mail order (it was store pick up only 1 month after the original release) and therefore presumably is back in stock. The link is

That's a good news as it shows that record company are taking flac seriously at least (and music quality in general). But 400 albums on 30.000, and sold the same price as the CD release... there is still room for progress!! Robin -- vrobin

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] High bit rates causing confusion.

2008-12-13 Thread Craig
I just bought the new John Mellencamp album which comes complete with a dvd containing a 24/96 wav version of this album. I converted these wavs to 24/96 flacs and they play natively on my TP. However if I play these on a SB2, task manager shows flac and lame running and using 100% cpu time.

SB2 can't play 24/96 itself. It used to be setup so it'd do a crude (nasty!) downsample on the player itself, but it now detects the problem on SC and transcodes it there. Currently it does so to mp3 though, which is clearly not ideal :) -- radish

You can install a recent sox build and convert to 'proper' 48KHz/24bit flac on the fly. It needs an edit to convert.conf and there's a thread or two about it in the General forum. -- Patrick Dixon www.at-tunes.co.uk

The Clux and TASCAM will record bitperfectly. Anything that can record S/PDIF at 24/88.2 bitperfectly will work. So is it correct to say that you could use the EMU 0404 instead of the TASCAM? If that's the case, is there a reason for preferring the TASCAM over the EMU? -- badboygolf16v

Sony have just brought out an SACD player, the SCD-XA5400ES, (kinda late in the day!) that says it has an uncompressed digital out for the DSD stream via HDMI.

I'm not sure how this will help you rip SACD's DSD stream via HDMI has been available for a while now, anything at HDMI 1.2 or above supports it. The SACD stream remains in DSD format though, it's not converted to PCM... -- DCtoDaylight Audiophile wish list: Zero Distortion, Infinite
