If I recall correctly, the thinking was that 'Logitech' was not a brand
that would impress audiophiles, so we were better off putting
'Transporter' on the front. :)

Oh that is true. If a user has the volume set to 100 using the player
option Output level is fixed at 100% then we would know not to bother
having the wheel control the volume.

You could always rip on a faster PC and still use your old laptop as a
server. You've got a home network already, I assume. :)

resolution, please file a bug and attach as small
an example file as you can find, and I'll have a look. It could be
you've found a firmware bug!

for a Slimserver setting to make the knob
behave like a volume control at power-on.

I should note that we didn't go for the extra expense and complexity of
their fancier motorized knobs.
Pretty much all this one does is tell you how fast it's turning in
which direction, give you detents, and stop at the end of a list.

It's probably not actually silent, but Richard has been putting in a
fair amount of effort trying to make it at least unobtrusive. :)
If you're sitting close to the unit in a quiet environment, a couple
minutes after you use the knob it will make a little 'br-r-r' sound.

There's not a way to do that at the moment, but the knob is new so of
course we haven't considered all the ways users would like to use it!
What do you have in mind? Do you want it to act like a volume control
all the time?
