It's probably not actually silent, but Richard has been putting in a fair amount of effort trying to make it at least unobtrusive. :) If you're sitting close to the unit in a quiet environment, a couple minutes after you use the knob it will make a little 'br-r-r' sound. -- ChrisOwens
