Ahem...may I suggest our Mini DACPre? It's just within your budget with XLR outputs (true balanced) and comes with volume control on the single ended outputs. Plus it's brand-new, not used. The Wolfson has a full-bodied sound signature with great bass and detail. -- mglaudiolabs Regards

and the SB3 in a blind test. But even the stock SB3 (no external DAC) is capable of outperforming some very expensive CD transports!
